Jerry’s Greatest Challenge 10-28-2007 through 11-04-2007 Life has it’s Challenges
Editors Note: This is the 35th week since Jerry was diagnosed with lung cancer. Jerry has reported each week regarding the progress, treatment, feelings, events and thoughts as he goes through this challenge.
To reach Jerry email him at Jerry@JerryFowler.com If you miss the weekly newspaper articles in the New Irmo News, The Lake Murray News, the Cayce West Columbia News or the Northeast News you can catch up or go back to week one by going to Jerry’s web site at www.JerryFowler.com, look on the left side menu and click on Jerry’s Medical Updates.
From Jerry: This has been the fourth week since my last Chemo treatment and this week has been a challenge. One would think after not being filled full of chemicals one would start feeling much better. I am still having problems with my feet. Never knew how important feet are until you have problems. As kids we called that feeling, your feet going to sleep. This occurred when you sat on your foot for a long time. Do you remember how difficult it was to walk on your foot after sitting on it for awhile? This is somewhat the feeling I have all the time. Like the foot has gone to sleep. I am told that this is normal and is a direct result of the Chemo treatments. Let’s hope these feet wake up soon.
Another challenge I have faced is the dizziness experienced first last Saturday the 27th of October. This is when I almost could not do the radio show because of the sickness and dizziness I experienced. I had to have someone drive me to the station. This feeling has persisted and Friday 11-2-2007 Dr. Babcock had me in the hospital for an MRI. According to Dr. Babcock this is a precautionary test to make sure nothing has happened in my brain. Now if something has happened I guess I have an excuse for my actions. We’ll know more about this test later.
On Monday 11-5-2007 I will have my PET scan. This is the ultimate in looking inside your body to see what is happening with the cancer. I ask for your prayers as we move forward with this very important test.
The challenges cancer patients experience are unbelievable. Thank God I have a loving wife, Judy who is always there for me and making sure I have taken my medicine and doing the proper things to take care of myself.
I am not sure how someone with cancer makes it without this type help. If you know someone going through the challenges of cancer and they have no one helping them please volunteer your services. They will deeply appreciate your help and reaching out to someone in need will make you feel better as well.
I have been given a name of a CPA who is willing to help us set up the foundation for the caregivers. Hopefully this will work out and I can announce which CPA in next week’s update. Be sure to remember if you need me to talk to your friends who are going through some of the same challenges, have them call me at 803-798-0555 or email me at Jerry@JerryFowler.com I will be glad to talk with them. Also if you need a speaker at your club let me know. We need to get the word out to all people about what their friends and neighbors are going through if they have cancer. Until next week I wish you a terrific and prosperous week and remember that “Day by Day in every way, by the grace of God, I am getting better and better and better and so can you no matter what type adversity you or your family face. Now let’s go out and create a terrific day for everyone we come in contact with.
