Great News This week
Editors Note: This is the 31st week since Jerry was diagnosed with lung cancer. Jerry has reported each week regarding the progress, treatment, feelings, events and thoughts as he goes through this challenge.
From Jerry: This has been a great week. I am still basting in the event which happened last weekend regarding the surprise birthday party with sensational memories. Friends and family are so wonderful. My advice to everyone is develop and improve those friendships and family relations. No matter what you accomplish in life, nothing is as important as your family and your friends. Friends and family do not care what you have accomplished. They do however care about you. Cherish them, love them and be loyal to them.
This week has been great. I might add it has been terrific. Monday started out with a good business day followed by an officers meeting of the school board. The following Tuesday I was scheduled to be at the SC Oncology Associations for a doctor’s appointment with Dr. Babcock. I arrived at 8:15 for the blood work. After the blood work I was scheduled to have an X-Ray to see the status of the tumor in my lung.
My appointment with Dr. Babcock was not until 9AM. After the check in weight and blood pressure I was put in the room awaiting Dr. Babcock.
This was a very good meeting. Dr. Babcock came in with his usual positive attitude and smiled and asked how I had been and how I was feeling. Of course I was feeling great. He put me on the examining table and listened to my lungs and heart and told me that the lungs were clear. Said he was pleased with the sound.
He then instructed me that I will need to get a B-12 shot while there. It seems the Chemo I am taking now depletes the B-12 in your body resulting in a tired feeling. I can vouch for that. Before he let me go he told me that he needed to look at the X-Rays taken shortly before my appointment.
He came back with a smile and told me that if he did not know what he was looking for he would not see the tumor. This is great news. However Dr. Babcock wanted me to have the final Chemo treatment which was scheduled for Tuesday 10-9-2007.
4 weeks after the final treatment we scheduled a PET scan to get a more detailed look at where we are with the cancer. Overall Dr. Babcock is very pleased and so am I. It has been a long difficult struggle with the after effects of 10 Chemo treatments and I expected the tumor to be gone. By the time we do the PET scan I feel this cancer will be history.
I do want to take this time to thank each of you for your prayers, cards, calls, letters, books and thoughts. I have told you that the secret to getting rid of cancer or any disease is prayer, positive thinking and belief that you can be healed. I have had all of these ingredients in my life and so can you.
Change your mindset and believe you can be healed. I know this sounds strange but forgive anyone who has hurt you or misused you in any way. Even the bible says that you cannot be healed unless you forgive all that have hurt or offended you. This is a very difficult task for many however it is a necessary ingredient if you expect to be free from disease.
Every motivational book and speaker will tell you the following: There are 27 mental laws and the Law of Forgiveness states: You are mentally healthy to the degree to which you can forgive and forget grievances against you. Your willingness to forgive others and to let go of past grievances is the single most important determinant of whether or not you are a fully integrated, fully functioning human being. So make a list of all the people who have offended or hurt you and forgive them now.
Until next week I wish you a terrific and prosperous week and remember that “Day by Day in every way, by the grace of God, I am getting better and better and better and so can you no matter what type adversity you are your family face. Now let’s go out and create a terrific day for everyone we come in contact with.
To the hundreds of you perhaps thousands, you have made my day, weeks and this year wonderful. God bless you all and remember do something nice for someone who is suffering from any type sickness or illness.
