Did you know that a burglar or stalker can find your house many times by simply typing your telephone number in the Google search box?  Then Google will draw a map straight to your house.  Phone numbers are very easy to get.  If any stranger types in your phone number that they overheard when you gave it to your checkout person at the grocery counter or picked up on your marketing material you could  be revealing your home address without even knowing it. It is easy to just copy your number off your check when you write a check.

How can you stop this.  Well first test the system using your telephone number.  Type your phone number into the Google search box using your area code and be sure to insert the dashes.  Example.  803-555-5555. Next, click on search.  In many cases Google will reveal your name and number.  Click on MAP and instantly there is a map to where you live.

You can remove your information by clicking on your phone number. The next screen will have a link that reads:

“Request to have your name removed from this list”  

Click this link and you will directed to a screen that allows you to remove your name permanently. When you first open the remove page the following message will appear:

Our phone and address listings are gathered by a third party provider, which collects telephone directories and other public records available elsewhere on the web. If you would like to have your telephone number completely unlisted (including from your local phone book), contact your local phone company and request to be both unlisted and unpublished.
 
To remove your residential listing information from the Google phonebook, please fill out the form below, entering all information exactly as it appears in your phonebook entry. Doing so will mean your residential listing does not appear in Google for any phonebook search, even searches conducted on your name instead of your phone number. Please note that this removal is permanent and that it's not possible to add your phone number again in the future.

Type your information in the box provided then click submit.  This will take about 48 hours to process.  Good luck and always protect your identity.
